Types of Cores Used in ACP

Blog Thumbnail

In recent years, Aluminium Composite Panels (ACPs)have emerged as a transformative force in the architecture and construction industry. However, the performance and longevity of ACPs largely depend on the type of core used, making the selection process a bit daunting.

Thus, to make the right decision, you must understand the various core options offered by Viva ACP and their respective features and benefits. Let us take an in-depth look at the types of cores used for Viva ACP’s Aluminium Composite Panels and uncover their unique applications.

Understanding the Different Types of Cores Used by Viva ACP for Aluminium Composite Panels

LDPE Core

Viva ACP offers Aluminium Composite Panels with an LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) core sandwiched between the two coils of solid aluminium.

Low Density Polyethylene is a highly versatile thermoplastic material known for its exceptional flexibility, lightweight properties, recyclability and good durability.

The LDPE core is characterised by a low density of 0.91-0.94 g/cm³ and low crystallinity of 50-60%, which provide it with remarkable flexibility and make it well-suited for fabrication and moulding applications.

Furthermore, LDPE’s lightweight nature simplifies the installation process and reduces structural load on buildings without compromising the performance of Aluminium Composite Panels.

This feature is particularly beneficial for construction projects where weight reduction is needed.

Aluminium Composite Panels with an LDPE core are ideal for projects:

  • Prioritising green building.
  • Demanding curved or complex designs.
  • Requiring electrical insulation.

Mineral Core

To mitigate the risk of fires, Viva ACP has developed fire-retardant Aluminium Composite Panels, a cutting-edge solution using ultra-modern technology that harnesses the power of minerals.

This new generation of Aluminium Composite Panels features Magnesium Hydroxide and Aluminium TriHydroxide as their core components, which are halogen-free and inorganic.

These fire-retardant mineral core ACPs are offered in two grades, including Fire Class B and Fire Class A2. Here is a brief overview of these ACP sheets.

Aluminium Composite Panels having mineral core are ideal for projects requiring:

  • High fire safety standards, such as hospitals, high-rise buildings, etc.
  • Thermal insulation
  • Extreme weather resistance

Aluminium Core

Viva ACP also offers ACP sheets with fire-retardant aluminium cores, which provide unmatched durability and rigidity to the panels. The aluminium core boasts a high strength-to-weight ratio and ensures natural resistance to corrosion, making ACPs suitable for harsh environments.

The two categories of aluminium cores that Viva ACP uses for manufacturing Aluminium Composite Panels are:

  • Honeycomb Core: Made up of 100% aluminium.
  • Corrugated Core: Made up of non-combustible pure aluminium.

The honeycomb core features a hexagonal design inspired by a natural honeycomb structure. Its unique structure makes the Aluminium Composite Panel lighter while providing incredible strength.

Viva Aluminium Honeycomb Panels have a fire rating of FR grade A2+ which guarantees that these panels can prevent the spread of fire rapidly.

On the other hand, Viva ACP’s Corrugated Core Panels are an improved version of honeycomb aluminium panels, possessing high durability and brilliant thermal insulation properties.

Engineered to withstand high temperatures and extreme temperature conditions, panels with an aluminium corrugated core also boast the highest FR grade A2+.

Summing Up

The core of Aluminium Composite Panels serves as their backbone, playing a key role in determining their performance and providing critical features such as structural stability, fire resistance and thermal insulation.

With three advanced core options, Viva ACP offers a wide range of Aluminium Composite Panels that meet the unique needs of every project while guaranteeing exceptional functionality, durability and design flexibility.
